Skillathons are educational events that test knowledge and skills related to specific animal species or projects. Topics include, but are not limited to: anatomy & physiology, animal health, breeds, by-products, digestion, diseases, environmental stewardship, genetics, handling, meat science, medication, nutrition, safety, and species-specific information.
This resource provides tests and study guides for the following species: (1) beef cattle, (2) canine, (3) dairy cattle, (4) equine, (5) goat, (6) poultry, (7) rabbit, (8) sheep, and (9) swine.
STUDY GUIDES provide topics for exhibitors to study, and identify benchmarks participants should research for the beginner (8-11), intermediate (12-14) and advanced (15-18) levels.
TESTS assess participants’ knowledge of the topics included in the species-specific study guides. Tests include 20 multiple choice questions and are tailored towards the topics for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Keys are also provided for each test.
3 complete rotations of study guides and tests are provided so educators can alternate between rotations A, B and C. This allows topics to alternate each year, removing the need to create new resources in the future.
These tests and study guides were developed using the species-specific resource handbooks published by The Ohio State University Extension.
