The Food Science & Technology CDE Coaches Manual provides FFA advisors and coaches with (3) complete practice sets to prepare students for the Food Science & Technology CDE. This coaches manual is aligned to the National FFA CDE contest and includes the following components: (1) Objective Test, (2) Problem Solving/Math Practicum, (3) Customer Inquiry, (4) Product Specification Compliance, (5) Triangle Tests, (6) Aromas, (7) Food Safety/Sanitation and (8) Product Development.

Coaches Manuals contain all of the resources necessary to successfully prepare students for the CDE. Through detailed Coaches Guides, advisors and coaches will feel comfortable, no matter their experience, in coaching this CDE. Coaches Guides include a description of each component of the CDE, materials needed to conduct the practice set, tips, tricks and insight for coaching the CDE, recommended preparation methods for practices, and an overview of the resources provided in this manual. In addition, Coaches Resources include flashcards, student handouts, a break down of the rubrics, and keys with additional information to help students master this CDE.

The Food Science & Technology CDE Coaches Manual was created in collaboration with Mr. Jeff Stimmell, the agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at Big Walnut High School in Ohio. Jeff’s insight and experience in this CDE is evident as his team won the national contest in 2018, 2019 and 2021, and were national runner-ups in 2022 and 2023.
